Nigeria Drops in FIFA Rankings After Poor Performances

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has experienced a significant drop in the latest FIFA rankings.

The team fell from 36th to 44th place globally, marking an 8-place decline.

This downward trend is due to the team’s underwhelming performances in the recent international window.

The Super Eagles suffered a surprising 0-2 loss to Rwanda at home in Uyo and managed only a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.

As a result, Nigeria’s total points decreased from 1503 to 1482.

The team’s ranking among African countries also dropped, with Nigeria now ranked 5th behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

In contrast, Niger made the biggest leap in the rankings, climbing nine spots to 122nd globally.

Argentina maintained its top spot in the global rankings, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil.

The latest FIFA rankings reflect a busy international football calendar, including World Cup 2026 qualifiers, AFCON 2025 matches, and Nations League fixtures.
