The House of Representatives has confirmed Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Lt. Gen. Oluyede was initially appointed in an acting capacity by President Bola Tinubu in October, following the illness and subsequent passing of the former Army Chief, Taoreed Lagbaja.
President Tinubu later sought Oluyede’s confirmation as the substantive army chief, highlighting his dedication to national security.
During his screening, Oluyede appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence and Army.
He pledged to tackle the country’s security challenges if confirmed and expressed his honor at being considered for the role.
He also committed to collaborating with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria.
Oluyede’s confirmation is a significant development in Nigeria’s security landscape and as the Chief of Army Staff, he will play a pivotal role in addressing the nation’s security issues and promoting peace and stability.
