The Nigerian Senate has voted to remove the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.
This decision was made with a two-thirds majority vote, following allegations of corruption, misconduct, and absenteeism against Umar.
The Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, had earlier sponsored a motion seeking Umar's removal, citing several petitions and allegations levelled against him.
Umar's unapproved absence from office for over a month without relinquishing his position was also a major concern.
President Bola Tinubu had already nominated Abdullahi Usman Bello to replace the CCT Chairman.
After a debate, 74 Senators voted for Umar's removal, while 10 opposed it.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, thereafter directed the Clerk of the Senate to inform the presidency of the resolution.
