UK Opens Largest Visa Application Centre in Africa in Lagos

The United Kingdom has inaugurated its largest visa application centre in Africa, situated in Lagos, Nigeria.

Operated by VFS Global, this new centre aims to streamline and enhance the visa application process for Nigerians traveling to the UK.

British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter expressed his enthusiasm for the new centre, highlighting its role in improving services for visa applicants.

Opened on November 19, the centre is a testament to the UK’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria, a key partner in Africa.

“I am delighted to witness the opening of this, the largest visa application centre in Africa.” The British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter said.

“Nigeria remains one of the UK’s most important partners, and we hope that VFS delivers ever improving services for those applying for visas to the UK.”

The centre offers a variety of services, including visa application submission, biometric data collection, and passport return.

VFS Global also manages visa application centres in Abuja and Victoria Island.

Marc Owen, Director of Visa, Status and Information Services at UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), noted that the new centre represents a significant milestone in delivering top-tier UK visa services in Nigeria and across Africa.

He said in the year leading up to June 2024, UKVI processed over 225,000 UK visas for Nigerian nationals across all categories.

The launch of this new visa application centre is expected to significantly improve the experience for Nigerian visa applicants, offering a more convenient and efficient application process.
