The Oyo State Police Command has held a moment of silence in honour of the 14-year-old student killed by a Police stray bullet in Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday 20th May, 2025.
The State Police Command paid their respects during a press briefing held in the presence of the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, at the Force Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
While shedding lights on the ugly incident, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, said the collaboration of men of the Nigerian Police Force and personnel of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, OYRTMA, became necessitated to curb lawlessness of road users on the road.
Condemning the recklessness of the driver of the concerned vehicle who is also the father of the deceased, and the action of the Police officer who fired the gun, the Commissioner of Police emphasized that justice will be served in due cause.
Acknowledging the trauma the incident could have caused to the siblings of the deceased 14-year-old boy who were inside the affected vehicle, the Police Commissioner, urged parents to always prioritise the safety of their wards in all their actions.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Major Adesagba Adekoya (Rtd.), reiterated the significance of collaboration between OYRTMA, the Nigerian Police and relevant sister security agencies to ensure law and order is maintained on roads across Oyo State.
He added that the father of the deceased student, Mr. Odunayo Alade, had previously been apprehended for traffic violation which caused him to pay a fine at the time and this sad incident portrays him as a serial offender.
