Oyo Govt calm nerves over Iyamopo hill exfoliation incident



The Oyo State Government has allayed the fears of the people of Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of the State on the mountain disruption that occurred over the weekend.   

 

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Government has started an immediate evaluation of the situation and has therefore called residents to remain calm.


According to the Commissioner,  experts from the Oyo State Solid Mineral Development Agency (OYSMDA) under its Director General Mr. Biodun Oni has been dispatched to the site.

  

The Information Commissioner said, that the Government is also working with experts from the university of Ibadan to analyze the geological activity and provide solutions to mitigate future occurrences.


He said that this partnership will help develop strategies to safeguard lives and property in the affected area.


Emphasizing that no casualty was recorded in the incident, he stated that residents can be assured that there is no cause for alarm.


The Commissioner however urged individuals residing near the rock to evacuate temporarily as a precautionary measure until a permanent solution is provided. 


Stating that the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens, he added that priority will continually be given to public safety and necessary updates will be given as investigations progress.
