The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has encouraged junior and Mid-Cadre officers of the Nigerian Army to embrace transformational leadership for the sustenance of effective operational successes.
The Chief of Army Staff disclosed this during the 2025 seminar on Transformational Leadership held at Headquarters 2-Division Nigerian Army, Ibadan, organised by the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, Army Headquarters with the theme, "Transformational Leadership and Nigerian Army Operational Effectiveness in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment."
Recognising leadership as a critical component of the Nigerian Army's fight against terrorism among other threats, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by the Chief of Transformation and Innovation Army, Maj. Gen. OS Abai, said that Junior and mid-level commanders are the frontliners in every military operation and their morale must continually be sustained.
Reiterating the Army's determination to make the nation's border inhabitable for negative elements, the Chief of Army Staff appreciated President Bola Tinubu's unwavering commitment towards advancing the operational qualities and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation Army, Maj. Gen. OS Abai, represented by the Deputy Director, Operations Analysis, Department of Army Transformation and Innovation Army, Brig. Gen. IE Akpaumontia, said the seminar focused on enhancing the leadership capacity of junior and mid-cadre officers, as well as sensitising personnel on the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Drugs and Substance abuse.
It was also meant to realign participants with the Chief of Army Staff's Command Philosophy which is centered on quality leadership, professionalism, combat readiness, and sound administrative practice.
He said leadership plays an effective role at junior and mid-cadre levels for operational excellence and must as a matter of duty be conveyed at every level of military operations.
Addressing the gallant soldiers on the topic, "Building the Leadership Capacity of Junior and Mid-Cadre Commanders: the Role of Operational Level Command in the Nigerian Army," the lecturer, Brig. Gen. JA Lawoyin (Rtd.) said the global security environment is constantly evolving and as such the military must continually step up its game and regularly update the knowledge and leadership skills of soldiers.
