The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the unfortunate attack on residents of Isokan Local Government by hoodlums during a political gathering in the area by a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji.
In a statement released by the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the incident was described as “a shameful display of irresponsibility by a man who has abandoned his national assignment for needless political brigandage in Osun State.
“It is most unfortunate that a man who currently holds a sensitive national office, whom President Bola Ahmed Tinubu entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring safety, development, and modernization of Nigeria’s inland waterways has derailed completely.
“Rather than focusing on his federal duties, he now traverses Osun communities, causing chaos and endangering lives in pursuit of his selfish and delusional ambition.”
In the statement, the PDP Chairman linked the violent incident in Apomu, which left several innocent citizens hospitalized, to activities of the APC Stalwart.
“This is a man who, only a day earlier, arrogantly visited Akinlalu addressing the monarch where he made yet another empty promise in his usual manner of deceit and political theatrics,” Hon. Bisi added.
Hon. Bisi stressed that such conduct is “unbecoming of a federal appointee.
“A man who cannot manage his own political emotions has no business managing a national agency.
“His behaviour is not only an affront to the people of Osun but also a stain on the integrity of the Presidency that appointed him,” the statement read.
With the statement, the Osun State PDP called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to immediately investigate the attack and ensure that all perpetrators, no matter how highly placed, are brought to justice.
“If Bola Oyebamiji himself is found culpable, he must be made to face the full weight of the law,” Hon. Bisi emphasized.
The party also issued a stern warning to the main opposition party in the State, cautioning them against any attempt to plunge the State into chaos for political gain.
“We will not sit idly by and allow the opposition to turn Osun into a battlefield.
“Our state has moved past the era of bloodletting and violence.
“Under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, Osun is enjoying peace, progress, and responsible governance, and no desperate politician will be allowed to truncate that,” the PDP warned.
Hon. Bisi urged the people of Isokan and the entire Osun populace to remain calm and law-abiding as security agencies carry out their duties.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of all citizens, assuring that the government of Governor Adeleke will continue to prioritize the safety and welfare of every Osun resident.
“Osun belongs to all of us, and we will not permit any individual, no matter how connected to sow seeds of chaos in our peaceful land.
“Bola Oyebamiji and his cohorts must be reminded that the era of impunity is long over,” he concluded.
