will not travel with Chelsea to on Tuesday evening after suffering tightness in his hamstring, manager said before kick-off, and also missed the matchday squad.

Rosenior delivered the update ahead of the game at the Amex, saying: "Cole's had some tightness in his hamstring, which he's been carrying. He's going to be out for this game, and we'll see how he moves on for the FA Cup semi-final." Palmer had featured against Manchester United at the weekend; Pedro had missed that match and was given a late fitness check on the morning of the game.

The absences mattered on two fronts. Chelsea sit seventh in the Premier League with four league matches left and must balance the run-in with a Wembley date — they are due to play Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. Rosenior tempered expectations for Pedro this midweek, adding: "I think Joao Pedro will be good for Sunday, but this game has come too close for him."

The manager also framed the selection issue to the squad's strengths: "With Estevao it's a blow, and with Joao Pedro and Cole, but we still have some outstanding players in the team," he said, before naming a trio he expects to deliver: "Enzo Fernandez can create and score goals and has done so all season, like has, and Liam Delap was really close to getting his goal on Saturday. We need to make sure it's a really strong team performance this evening."

The day carried an additional distraction. Screenshots of a post on X circulated online in the hours before kick-off claiming both Palmer and Joao Pedro "both injured tonight" and boasting "There's your exclusive." The post and the account that published it were deleted before the match; when asked the club did not deny the authenticity of the deleted post.

The leaked screenshots, if genuine, would mark the third reported instance of team-news leaking since Liam Rosenior's appointment in early January, a pattern that has added friction to match preparations even as Chelsea chase points and a cup final place.

Chelsea arrive at the Amex looking to respond after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at on Saturday. The immediate consequence of Palmer's absence is practical: Rosenior must reshuffle his matchday selection without a player who featured at the weekend and who might otherwise have been a factor against Brighton.

Rosenior ended the pre-match news cycle by pointing at the calendar. His message on Palmer was straightforward and decisive: "He's going to be out for this game, and we'll see how he moves on for the FA Cup semi-final." That frames the next test: Palmer's recovery between now and Sunday will determine whether Chelsea can present a closer to their strongest XI at Wembley while juggling four remaining league fixtures.
