Governor led a thank-you and solidarity visit to President in as the politics of nigeria around the 2027 general elections began to sharpen. The delegation included sectoral leaders, founding fathers and political stakeholders.

Tinubu appeared visibly overwhelmed by the visit and used the occasion to describe Mbah as a quintessential and transformative leader Nigeria needs to move forward. In return, Mbah told the president that the people of Enugu State supported his administration and his re-election bid.

The meeting mattered because it came after Tinubu’s 4 January 2025 visit to Enugu State, when he described Mbah as both the “tomorrow and today” of the state. That exchange gave the Abuja visit a sharper political edge, especially with both men now speaking in the language of continuity and support ahead of 2027.

Mbah also made further requests for federal consideration and interventions during the visit, and Tinubu gave his assurance and word in response. That leaves the next step with the federal government, where Enugu will be watching to see whether the warmth of the meeting turns into action.

The visit also landed alongside a separate push from the north, where APC stakeholders over the weekend pledged 3.5 million votes for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. In , the party also resolved to adopt consensus as its method for producing candidates for governor, National Assembly and the 24-member State Assembly, with party leader saying the arrangement had worked in the state before and citing the performance of the administration and federal reforms.

Put together, the two developments show how early the race for 2027 is taking shape: in Enugu, through a public show of loyalty and requests for intervention; in Yobe, through a formal vote pledge and a consensus plan meant to keep the party united. Tinubu is already drawing support from both ends of the country, and the test now is whether those pledges hold when the campaign season actually arrives.
