Femi Gbajabiamila has thrown his full support behind Obafemi Hamzat’s bid for the Lagos State governorship in 2027, telling the deputy governor there was no doubt the state was in safe hands. Gbajabiamila said Hamzat could take his support for granted.
The former House of Representatives speaker made the declaration during a visit that added fresh weight to Hamzat’s widening consultations across key political blocs. Gbajabiamila told him, “Dr. Hamzat, you’re a man of honour, and it shows by not taking things for granted, judging by this consultation move.” He then went further: “But I am saying it publicly that you can take me for granted because I have confidence in your ability and capacity. So, take my support for granted.”
Gbajabiamila tied that backing to his own political base, saying, “My constituency, Surulere, is for you and Lagos is for you.” His public endorsement came as Hamzat continued meeting influential figures ahead of the 2027 election, a sequence of consultations that has turned into an early show of force inside the ruling party’s Lagos network.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro said the response to Hamzat had already gone well beyond a routine round of visits. “I can confidently tell the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu that the level of endorsement has been overwhelming,” he said, pointing to the gathering strength around the deputy governor’s ambition. Among those in the entourage were Alhaji Muti Are, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Bode Oyedele, Engineer Adekunle Olayinka, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, Saheed Kekereekun, Dr. Jebe, and Rasaq Ajala.
Hamzat’s outreach has included visits to Gbajabiamila, Tokunbo Abiru, and Wale Edun at their residences. Abiru said the consultations reflected the APC’s values of unity and discipline and told Hamzat, “You have our full support.” Edun urged him to prioritise poverty reduction and economic growth. also reported that Gbajabiamila, Abiru, and Edun endorsed Hamzat ahead of the 2027 election.
That mix of open backing and private consultation leaves little doubt about where the momentum is heading. Hamzat is the deputy governor of Lagos State, and the support he is gathering from major APC figures suggests his 2027 bid is moving from quiet preparation to an organised political push.
