The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has extended the sale of Direct Entry application forms to May 8, 2026, giving candidates more time to complete registration as pressure builds around access to tertiary education. Fabian Benjamin announced the move on Wednesday in a statement posted via X.
JAMB said the jamb 2026 de registration extension was meant to ensure that eligible candidates are not shut out of the process, and it also approved five additional registration centres to make the application process smoother. The board named the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, CODL, Mini Campus, University of Ilorin, in Kwara State; Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State; the Prof. Usman E-Learning Centre at the Federal College of Education Special Oyo, Oyo State; and Human Development Initiatives, Grace House, Iwaya, Sabo, Lagos, as the new centres.
Human Development Initiatives, Grace House, Iwaya, Sabo, Lagos, commenced operations on April 30, 2026, adding immediate capacity as the deadline moved. The added centres were approved because some locations were experiencing high demand, and JAMB said they are intended to ease congestion and improve access for candidates seeking to complete Direct Entry registration.
The extension now gives prospective Direct Entry candidates until May 8 to submit the required documents, and the board is betting that extra sites will reduce the bottlenecks that have complicated registration at busy centres. For candidates trying to secure a place in tertiary education, the practical test will be whether the new deadline and new centres are enough to clear the line before it closes again.
