An Amber Alert for a 5-day-old newborn was canceled Saturday evening after the child was found in Mohave County with his parents, ending a frantic search that began with a call around 11 a.m. and escalated just before 6:30 p.m.
Phoenix police said the initial call came in around 11 a.m. Saturday about a newborn taken from a medical clinic near 30th Street and McDowell Road. Officers responded to the clinic and said the baby, identified as Ollie Olson, had been taken by his parents without being medically cleared to leave. Police said Ollie was under critical care when Tyler Olson and Asia Olson left the clinic in a dark colored Jeep. The Arizona Department of Public Safety issued the Amber Alert just before 6:30 p.m., and by Saturday evening officers said Ollie had been found with Tyler Olson and Asia Olson in Mohave County. Both adults were taken into custody, and the infant was taken to the hospital for treatment. His current condition was not known.
The case centered on a newborn police described as being under critical care before he was taken from the clinic, which is why detectives moved quickly after the first report and why the alert went out later in the day. DPS originally spelled the last name as Olsen, not Olson, but officials used Olson in the update that followed the recovery. The details left one clear answer for anyone following the search: the baby was found, but the questions now shift to his condition and what led the parents to leave with him before doctors cleared him to go.
