Auckland FC on track to sellout A-League grand final

FC will host the A-League grand final in for the first time on Saturday May 23, 2026, and organisers say demand has already outstripped supply as tickets vanished from general sale.

Just after 4pm on Monday, organisers reported just over 20,000 tickets had been sold for , which holds around 25,000; tickets had sold out within six minutes of going on general sale that day and by Tuesday morning only hospitality and accessibility seating remained available.

The berth in the final came after Auckland beat 3-0 in Adelaide on Friday night, and the match will be hosted by Auckland because the club finished third in the regular season while finished fifth.

Coach celebrated the moment and the crowd that followed. "It's going to be such a special occasion, and to be able to make a grand final, but also host it for the first time in your own backyard is an incredible piece," he said. "I'm so proud of the boys and their effort from the weekend and we can't wait for the weekend to roll on and to get out there in front of a full house."

Becker described meeting travelling supporters after the semi-final as one of the weekend's highlights. "I got to actually go down and see some of the fans who had come all the way over to the game. They'd come last minute, they'd spent a lot of their own money and to sort of celebrate with them was amazing," he said. "There's only probably 30 or 40 of them in the stadium at Coopers and so that was an incredible moment."

Those kinds of scenes help explain the buying frenzy. Auckland set a record attendance of 29,148 for a semi-final in May 2025 and had drawn 27,009 for a derby with Wellington Phoenix in February 2025 — figures that underline how strong local demand is even though Go Media Stadium's capacity is around 25,000.

Broadcasters have moved quickly to cover the occasion. Sky TV subscribers can watch the grand final live on 1, and the match will be streamed live on Sky Sport Now and Sky Go. Sky Open will show a delayed free-to-air broadcast of the full game between and Sydney between 10pm and 1am for viewers without subscriptions.

Sky has promised an expanded production around the match. The company says the coverage will be produced in 4K UHD, will use 20 cameras and — for the first time at Go Media Stadium — a four-wire camera system. Sky Sport will also stage a 90-minute pre-match show and Sky Sport 1 will broadcast a one-hour post-match show after the match.

For Becker, the crowd is more than atmosphere; it's a competitive advantage. "You can't underestimate how important it is for the players when the place is near full or as it will be on Saturday night at full capacity, it really lifts them," he said. "I think we've got the best fans in the league or in the country by a mile and to have that support so early on has been super important."

The tight supply has already pushed organisers to explore options. Match organisers are reportedly looking to install temporary seating on the North Bank to release more tickets, a measure that would be aimed at meeting demand after the rapid sell-through during general sale.

The big question now is whether temporary seating will be approved and installed in time to let more fans into Go Media Stadium — a decision that will determine if the crowd can match the size and intensity of Auckland's recent record attendances or whether the club will have to leave thousands of supporters watching on Sky Sport and Sky Open instead.
