President on Monday approved the appointment of Maj.-Gen. (rtd.) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, a move the presidency said is meant to tighten ’s internal security coordination. The appointment was confirmed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. , and conveyed through the Permanent Secretary, , Dr .

Tinubu said the choice of Fadewa reflected his outstanding service record, strategic expertise and long-standing contribution to Nigeria’s national security architecture. He said the appointment showed his administration’s resolve to strengthen coordination across agencies and build a more responsive security framework.

The president said stronger collaboration among security agencies remained critical to protecting lives, safeguarding communities and preserving national stability. That message puts the appointment squarely in the centre of a broader push for tighter internal security and intelligence-led operations, rather than as a routine staffing decision.

Fadewa arrives with a background that fits that brief. He served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021, played a key role in the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre under ONSA, and later worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in after retirement. He also brings over 30 years of military service to the post.

The appointment was first reported as the naming of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, with the announcement said to have come from the on Monday. The slight variation in the spelling of the surname in the notices did not alter the substance of the decision: Tinubu has chosen a security veteran with deep experience in intelligence coordination and inter-agency work.

This is not just a title change. Tinubu’s own words make the direction clear: the administration wants a more coordinated security framework, and Fadewa is now being placed in a role built to help deliver it.
