The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will hold its 2026 policy meeting on May 11 in Abuja, where it will set the guidelines for the 2026/2027 admission exercise. The meeting is scheduled for the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Jabi and will bring together the officials who shape access to tertiary education across Nigeria.
Minister of Education Maruf Olatunji Alausa is expected to unveil key policy directions at the event, which also draws vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars and admission officers from across the country. The National Universities Commission, the National Commission for Colleges of Education and the National Board for Technical Education are also expected to attend, along with goodwill messages from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps.
The annual meeting is where JAMB and tertiary education stakeholders decide the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scores for admission and set the rules guiding entry into universities, colleges of education and technical institutions. This year’s session will also feature the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards, which recognises institutions for complying with admission guidelines.
That makes the Abuja gathering more than a calendar item: it is the point at which the next admission cycle is effectively written. By the time the meeting ends, applicants and schools will know the score thresholds and rules that will govern the 2026/2027 intake.
