One adult female died and four other passengers were seriously injured after two Toyota Sienna buses collided head-on on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday. The crash happened near Iyana-Iworo in the early hours of the day and involved two fully loaded commercial buses.
The injured passengers were taken to a nearby trauma centre for urgent medical attention, while the body of the woman was recovered from the scene. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said its Tiger Squad from the C3 Command was activated at about 7:26 a.m. and its personnel got there around 8:00 a.m. to coordinate rescue and recovery operations.
Preliminary investigations indicated that reckless driving by another Toyota Sienna triggered the collision, according to Olawale Afolabi. That finding put the focus squarely on driver conduct on one of lagos's busiest road links, where even a brief crash can snarl traffic and delay movement across the city. LASEMA personnel worked with police officers and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to secure the scene, manage traffic and clear the wreckage.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu described the crash as preventable and urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations. He warned against excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking and poor lane discipline, the same habits that can turn a routine commute into a fatal wreck on a major bridge route. The crash leaves little doubt about what happens when those warnings are ignored: one person is dead, four others are badly hurt, and a preventable collision has again forced emergency crews into a rush-hour response.
