Lexus has unveiled the TZ, its first three-row electric SUV, marking the brand’s latest move into larger battery-powered family vehicles. Based on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, the 2027 Lexus Tz Electric Suv arrives with a dual-motor setup, standard all-wheel drive and a cabin Lexus says is the quietest of any of its SUVs.
The new TZ will be offered with two battery sizes, 76.9kWh and 95.8kWh. Lexus estimates the larger pack will deliver around 300 miles of range, while the SUV’s 400-volt system tops out at 150kW and can replenish from 10 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes. The TZ measures 200.8 inches long, or 5100mm, making it slightly longer than the Highlander EV, which Toyota revealed earlier this year as its own first three-row electric SUV.
Inside, Lexus has fitted a 14-inch main infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin also uses forged bamboo panels, plant-based UltraSuede and recycled aluminum, along with a panoramic glass sunroof. Lexus said the larger battery version has a WLTP range of 530km, while the dual electric motors produce a total system output of 300kW and send the TZ from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The TZ appears aimed squarely at the growing class of large electric SUVs now led by the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. Its seating layout appears to be 2-2-3, with captain’s chairs in the second row and three-abreast seating in the back, and a six-seater option is also expected. A native NACS port suggests Lexus is preparing the SUV for markets where that charging standard is becoming more important, though the launch timing is currently focused on Japan, where it is expected around winter 2026.
Australia is still on the table. A Lexus Australia spokesperson said the company continually reviews opportunities to enhance its local lineup and is currently assessing the TZ for potential introduction. That makes sense for a right-hand-drive market, but it does not amount to a commitment. For now, the TZ is Lexus’s clearest signal yet that the brand intends to compete seriously in the electric three-row space, not just with a badge on the tailgate, but with range, speed and packaging that can stand beside the best-known rivals.
