The National Youth Service Corps in Kaduna State on May 13, 2026, asked for an upward review of the feeding allowances paid to corps members during orientation and for their monthly stipend. The appeal was made by Efeke Murna Dadaza at the closing ceremony of the Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp at Government College, Kaduna.
Dadaza said the request had become necessary to further enhance the welfare of corps members in the state. He added that improved welfare packages would further motivate corps members and enhance their productivity during the service year.
The plea came as the camp marked the end of the latest orientation exercise, a stage that often sets the tone for the year ahead for new corps members posted across the state. In Kaduna, the appeal was tied directly to the conditions under which those young graduates begin work, from feeding at camp to the monthly support they receive after deployment.
Dadaza also urged the corps members to hold on to the discipline and values they had learned during orientation. He asked them to settle quickly into their places of primary assignment and make meaningful contributions to the communities that receive them. He further encouraged them to take part in Community Development Service projects that could leave lasting positive impacts in those host communities.
Governor Uba Sani was represented at the ceremony by Gloria Ibrahim, the commissioner for youth development. She told the corps members to embrace their postings, especially in rural communities where their services were most needed. Sani also said the NYSC scheme remained a vital platform for national integration, personal growth and community development, while assuring the corps members that the state government would continue to provide a safe and enabling environment for them.
The governor, through his representative, also appealed to employers to support corps members in their places of assignment and urged the young graduates to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to acquire practical skills. The message from both the NYSC and the state government pointed in the same direction: corps members are expected to do more, but Kaduna wants to give them better conditions to do it.
The unanswered question now is whether the appeal will lead to a higher feeding allowance and a bigger monthly stipend for corps members in Kaduna State, or whether the request will end as another call made at the end of orientation and left to future budget decisions.
