Primaries: Seven Benue Reps, Majority Leader, Farouk Lawan lose tickets

The chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday announced the results of its House of Representatives primaries, with winners declared across the state’s federal constituencies after a contest the party said was peaceful and conducted under its rules. Alhaji , who headed the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced the outcome at the Conference Hall of the APC State Secretariat in .

won the primary, took Makurdi/Guma, and secured Buruku. Terhemba Nongo won Gwer East/Gwer West, Prof. Kohol Iornem won Kwande/Ushongo, Solomon Wombo won Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo, Chief Engr. Livinus Tsar won Vandeikya/Konshisha, won Otukpo/Ohimini, Ojutu Ojuma won Apa/Agatu, Anthony Agom won Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu, and Peter Oboh Egbodi won Obi/Oju.

Mahuta said the primaries were held on Saturday across Benue State in line with the guidelines of the party and the provisions of the Electoral Act. The APC said the exercise produced winners in 10 federal constituencies and congratulated the successful candidates after the results were declared.

The primaries matter because they were staged ahead of the 2027 general elections, giving the party its first clear list of House of Representatives contenders in the state. Supplementary reporting from the contests said some incumbent lawmakers lost return tickets while a few aspirants kept theirs, a sign that the party’s field is already shifting before the national race begins. Regina Akume is identified in that reporting as the wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while Blessing Onuh is identified as the daughter of former Senate President David Mark.

The APC also urged members and supporters to close ranks and work together for the party and for the development of Benue State. That call now becomes the test: whether the winners can hold the party together after a competitive primary season, or whether the losers will turn the early advantage into an internal fight before 2027.
