The National Identity Management Commission on Tuesday launched two new digital customer support channels: a Live Chat feature on its official website and an official WhatsApp support line at +234 701 566 6971, the commission said.
Kayode Adegoke, speaking for the commission, said the move is intended to make getting help with National Identification Number enquiries easier for Nigerians and legal residents and to cut the need for physical visits to NIMC offices.
In a statement announcing the rollout, NIMC said the platforms are designed to provide prompt responses to enquiries, real-time guidance and improved customer interaction. The commission encouraged members of the public to connect through Live Chat Support on or via its official WhatsApp Support Line at +234 701 566 6971.
“Under the visionary leadership of Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, NIMC continues to implement strategic reforms and innovative digital solutions focused on expanding access, strengthening public trust, and improving service delivery for all Nigerians and legal residents,” Kayode Adegoke said.
The commission framed the launches as part of its ongoing reforms and digital transformation initiatives under Abisoye Coker-Odusote, intended to make assistance on NIN-related enquiries and other identity management matters faster and more accessible. NIMC stressed the services are available to both citizens and legal residents seeking help with NIN issues.
The two new digital channels — the website Live Chat and the official WhatsApp support platform — are meant to deliver real-time help and reduce queues at enrollment and service centres, the commission said. NIMC said the platforms will provide verified information, prompt assistance and updates regarding NIN services, while limiting the need for in-person visits.
The launch also came with a warning: NIMC advised the public to engage only through its official communication channels to avoid misinformation and fraudulent activities. The commission said promoting verified lines of contact is central to its effort to strengthen public trust in identity management services.
That warning underlines a practical tension in the rollout: digital channels can speed service and cut physical foot traffic, but they also create new openings for impersonation and scams if the public relies on unofficial contacts or social accounts. NIMC’s explicit naming of its website and the WhatsApp number is an attempt to square that circle by steering enquiries toward verified, trackable lines.
For Nigerians trying to find the new help options, NIMC said members of the public can start by visiting and using the Live Chat feature or by saving and messaging the official WhatsApp Support Line at +234 701 566 6971. The commission said the platforms are intended to improve responsiveness and overall service delivery without requiring customers to travel to brick-and-mortar offices.
If the public adopts the channels and heeds the commission’s advice to use only official lines, the NIMC’s stated goal — faster responses, fewer in-person visits and stronger customer interaction — is achievable. The real test will be whether the new nin enquiry live chat and WhatsApp support reduce bottlenecks and limit fraud by concentrating legitimate traffic through the commission’s verified contacts.
