Gov Yusuf approves N20,000 Eid package for Kano civil servants

Governor has approved a special goodwill package of ₦20,000 for civil servants across the state and its 44 local government areas ahead of Eid-el-Kabir. The move comes after the successful payment of May 2026 salaries and is aimed at workers on Grade Levels 01 to 14 in state ministries and local government councils.

said the governor described the intervention as a compassionate, worker-friendly gesture meant to help civil servants meet the financial strain that comes with festive periods. He said the decision was informed by prevailing economic realities and the extra demands of the season, adding that the support would allow workers to celebrate Eid with joy and comfort alongside their families.

The announcement places Kano among the states using the run-up to Eid Kabir to cushion households, but it also underscores how tightly seasonal relief is now tied to salary timing and broader economic pressure. The package is only for workers in Grades 01 to 14, which makes it a targeted intervention rather than a blanket payout.

On Monday, the Kano State Government also donated 15 cows, 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of cooking oil and other assorted soup ingredients to inmates in correctional centres across the state. presented the items to the and said the gesture reflected Governor Yusuf’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and rehabilitation of inmates in the state.

received the donation on behalf of the correctional service and said it would boost the morale of inmates and enable them to celebrate the Sallah season with joy and a sense of belonging. On behalf of the Controller-General of Corrections, , he thanked the state government for what he called its unwavering support to inmates in Kano State.

The two moves point to the same message from Kano: the state is using Eid Kabir to reach both workers and prisoners, not just with ceremony but with direct material support. For civil servants, the next step is the ₦20,000 payment tied to the festive period; for inmates, it is the distribution of food and supplies inside correctional centres before Sallah.
