Four masked gunmen abducted a 60-year-old building materials trader in Ibadan on Saturday night, forcing him into an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road in the Monatan area.
The trader was intercepted at about 8:47 p.m. while returning home, according to police. Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade said operatives moved to the scene after a distress call and activated measures aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending the men involved.
The attack took place in Monatan, a part of Ibadan, Oyo State, where investigators are still working on the case. Police said tactical efforts were continuing to secure the trader’s safe release and track down those responsible.
The abduction adds to the strain on families and businesses that move through the city after dark, with a trader in a routine trip home now at the center of a police search. For the police, the immediate task is straightforward: find the victim first, then the men who took him. The question now is whether the operation underway can do both before the trail goes cold.
